Call about mistreated child leads to one arrest

WETHERSFIELD, N.Y. (WIVB) – Deputies say when they responded to a Wyoming County home, they didn’t find a mistreated child a caller had warned about, but did find several marijuana smoking devices.

The sheriff’s office was called to Hermitage Road in the Town of Wethersfield late Thursday night after a complaint was made that a 9-year-old boy was being mistreated.

Deputies arrived but found the child in good health. However, several marijuana smoking devices and a small amount of the drug were in plain view of and within reach of the child.

Terry Schell, 51, was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child and unlawful possession of marijuana. He was taken to the Wyoming County Jail on $1,500 bail.

The 9-year-old boy is safe with a third party. Child Protective Services was contacted.
