Special Mass honors Father Nelson Baker

LACKAWANNA, N.Y. (WIVB) — A group of Western New York Catholics celebrated the life and work of Father Nelson Baker, who died 78 years-ago.

Church leaders tell News 4 that Father Baker is currently on a path towards sainthood. “We’ve completed the first step which led Father Baker to the term Venerable, so he is Venerable Nelson Baker right now,” said Monsignor Paul Burkard, “After that we submitted a miracle to Rome for their consideration and they’re still reading and vetting that miracle. They’re about half way through, I would say.”

If that miracle is approved by the Catholic Church, Venerable Nelson Baker would become Blessed Nelson Baker.  A second miracle would then have to be submitted and approved before he could be named a saint.
