BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – A man is accused of being highly intoxicated when he crashed his car outside of a home on State Route 5 in the Town of Sheridan.

New York State Police say 64-year-old Richard Kamphey was transported by Starflight to Erie County Medical Center after the accident last week.

Police say Kamphey pulled out of a residence, spun his tires and lost control of his vehicle. His vehicle made a sharp left turn before going into a ditch, and hitting a culvert.

Kamphey was not wearing a seatbelt and suffered multiple fractures of his arm, shoulder, and pelvis.

Police say they found an open 25 oz Natural Ice beer can that was half full at the scene. The beer was allegedly still cold. There was also gravel and a garden rake in the middle of the roadway, that fell off the vehicle before the crash.

Kamphey is facing several charges, including felony DWI. This was Kamphey’s 7th DWI arrest.
