Cheektowaga Police report surge in car break-ins

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) – Cheektowaga Police say there has been a surge in the number of vehicle break-ins, in streets and driveways across the town.

Police say they have made several arrests, and that the activity is happening in all areas of Cheektowaga. Police say the number of reported vehicle break ins has doubled this year, compared to last year.

Police have stepped up patrols in marked and unmarked vehicles. They are also using bicycle patrols throughout residential areas.

Most of the incidents occurred in the early-morning hours of the night. In most cases the vehicles had been left unlocked.

Police are reminding residents to lock their car doors.
