Advocates look to reduce crime in Buffalo

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Buffalo Promise Neighborhood is working on a new crime and safety report and using the data to develop a plan to help reduce crime in the city.

Wednesday night they met with the public for the first time to go over some of the ideas. Leaders say crime is a problem that needs attacked from a lot of angles.

Director of Community Affairs Tonya Staples said, “It’s going to take an entire community to be able to address the issues that are happening here. It’s going to take the community to really take charge and take ownership of what’s happening in the neighborhood. And working with a lot of partners within the City of Buffalo to make this a reality that we can stabilize the neighborhood and begin to reduce crime.”

The program is being funded by a grant.
