Ex-employee allegedly steals $3,000 in cash

CLARENCE, N.Y. (WIVB) – A former employee of Paulter’s Drive-In is accused of stealing $3,000 in cash.

The restaurant’s surveillance cameras caught pictures of the suspect, who was identified to authorities as Bryan Chaput, 32, of Amherst.

The Erie County Sheriff’s Office said detectives were called to the overnight burglary in Clarence on July 8. They found the rear security door was smashed, and the door to the office was forced open. Authorities say $3,000 was missing from a safe in the office.

The sheriff’s office took Chaput into custody from the Amherst Police Department, who had arrested him on unrelated charges.

Chaput is charged with felony burglary, grand larceny and criminal mischief charges.
