BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – City leaders honored a Good Samaritan Thursday who tried to break up a fight in a Buffalo park.

James Legrand, 67, received the mayor’s Civilian Award of Merit at the Buffalo Police Department Awards Ceremony.

Last year, Legrand tried to stop a fight at Shoshone Park, but a group of teenagers proceeded to beat him up.

Nine teenagers pleaded guilty, and four of them received jail time.
