Hours-long wait at border crossing

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) – Customs officials are telling travelers to brace for the possibility of busy border crossings into Canada this weekend.

Monday is the civic holiday in Canada often called “Provincial Day.” That can mean more Canadian travelers taking advantage of the long weekend by crossing the border at western and northern New York crossings.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection advises drivers to prepare for heavy traffic. Traffic conditions can be found online through the federal agency’s website at CBP.gov.

At the Peace Bridge Friday afternoon, the delay is between 30-60 minutes in both directions. On the Rainbow Bridge, there is a 30-60 minute delay getting into the U.S. and a 1-2 hour delay getting into Canada.

Backups are worst on the Queenston-Lewiston Bridges, where there is a 1-2 hour delay getting into the U.S. and a 2-3 hour delay getting into Canada.
