STAFFORD, N.Y. (WIVB) – Seven people are recovering at Strong Memorial Hospital from an accident that happened Thursday night at Transit Road and Sweetland Road in the Town of Stafford.
Police said an SUV driven by 27-year-old Jared Flaming from Corfu hit a minivan being driven by 25-year-old Latoya Stanley from Batavia. The impact rolled the minivan that was carrying six passengers.
The front seat passenger of the SUV, 27-year-old Ashley Cornett of Corfu, was not wearing a seat belt and suffered a head injury. She was taken to the hospital by Mercy Flight. Another passenger in the SUV and Flaming were not injured.
A passenger in the minivan, 23-year-old Markeda Starks from Rochester, was also taken to Strong Memorial by Mercy Flight. There were three children in the van.
Police said none of the injuries in this accident appeared to be life threatening. On Thursday night, they were all in stable condition.
Sergeant Ronald Miedes from the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office said the minivan drove into the path of the SUV.
“At this time we believe it did stop, but then proceeded, whether the driver may have thought it was a four-way stop, or for some reason didn’t see the Suburban coming or see their headlights or didn’t wait long enough, that we can’t determine at this time,” he said.
Flaming is charged with felony driving while intoxicated, and police say his BAC was over the legal limit. Additional charges for both the drivers are still pending.
