BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – The Erie County Sheriff’s Office will honor a deputy killed in the line of duty 90 years after his death.

In 1925, Fredrick Kaesser was shot and killed while tracking three robbery suspects. Kaesser’s name is carved into a memorial in Buffalo for fallen deputies.

Former Erie County Sheriff Tom Higgins only recently discovered and researched Kaesser’s story.

On Friday, deputies will wear black bands over their badges in his honor.
