CANTON, Ohio (WIVB) – The Bills starters lasted just two series in the preseason opener, with the defense dominating and the offense sputtering.
EJ Manuel went just 2-7 for 19 yards in his brief action, with two passes batted down at the line of scrimmage. He nearly threw an interception on the team’s second drive, which started on New York’s 22 yard line, thanks to a Kyle Williams strip-sack. Linebacker Keith Rivers, a former Giant, recovered the fumble for the Bills.
Manuel targeted Mike Williams several times during the two series, with Williams starting in place of Robert Woods. Williams, first-round pick Sammy Watkins, and Chris Hogan were the first three receivers on the field for Buffalo tonight. Woods lined up with the second-team offense. Jeff Tuel was the second-team quarterback.
The starting defense allowed just one first down during its two series tonight, with the Kyle Williams sack highlighting the day for the starters.
