Alleged drunk driver hits car, walks away from scene

AKRON, N.Y. (WIVB) – Deputies say after crashing into a vehicle on Cedar Street in Akron early Saturday morning, a suspected drunk driver left the scene on foot.

The Erie County Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene around 1 a.m. where they found the driver of a pickup truck had slammed into another vehicle, pushing that vehicle into a tree.

There were no injuries at the scene, but the driver of the pickup had left on foot.

Deputies found Harold Schilling a short time later on Hake Road near Jackson Street in Akron. After failing field sobriety tests, the 35-year-old was arrested for DWI and traffic violations. He allegedly had a .15 percent BAC.

Schilling is due back in court at a later date. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
