Man sentenced for shooting victim over gold chain

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – A man who murdered his victim over a gold chain will spend the next 24 years in prison.

Ahkeem Huffman, 24, wanted a gold chain, so prosecutors say he shot 20-year-old Rashiene Carson in the neck, killing him.

Buffalo Police initially arrested Charles Tubbins, but DNA evidence exonerated him.

In court the victim’s father told Huffman, “He’s a killer, that’s all he is.”

Huffman told the family, “I’m not sorry because I’m not a sorry person, but I apologize to the family.”

Court started late because Huffman refused to get fingerprinted. His defense attorney said he didn’t have details on why that happened.

Huffman is currently serving a sentence for a weapons charge.

The victim’s family didn’t want to talk to News 4 outside of the courtroom. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
