Traffic expected to be heavy for Cabela’s opening

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) – Cheektowaga Police are warning the public about potential traffic backups on Thursday due to the grand opening of Cabela’s.

The store will open at 10:45 a.m. on Thursday and traffic is expected to be heavy along Walden Avenue and the NYS Thruway.

Cabela’s says the Cheektowaga store, the retailer’s first store in New York, is designed to surround customers in an outdoor experience complete with wildlife displays and a mountain replica. It will feature an indoor archery range, a gun library, a boat shop, a deli, even a fudge shop.

Police estimate an additional 6,000 vehicles will be in the already congested area and are asking motorists who can seek an alternate route to do so.

The KMart parking lot will be used for overflow parking. Additional officers will be in the area for traffic control, but motorists should expect delays.
