Deputies watch as woman burglarizes business

PORTAGEVILLE, N.Y. (WIVB) – Deputies sat back and waited while a suspected burglar stole items from a business, only pulling her over as she attempted to leave.

The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office was called to Portageville on Monday, and on the way, deputies spotted a suspicious vehicle pulling into the driveway of a closed flower and landscaping shop in the Town of Genesee Falls.

After wrapping up the unrelated call, deputies returned to the shop where they sat and watched a woman walking around the business with a small light. Authorities say for the next hour and a half, the woman removed items from the business, finally leaving around 3 a.m.

Once she pulled out, deputies pulled her over on State Route 19. Inside her car, deputies say they found flowers, ports and gardening objects.

Katy O’Brien was arrested for driving while ability impaired by drugs and third degree burglary.

The 29-year-old Warsaw woman was taken to the Wyoming County Jail on $10,000 bail. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
