BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – A man considered a career criminal will face at least 15 years in prison for possessing a firearm.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says 31-year-old Alexy Diaz of Buffalo has three previous violent felony or serious drug offense convictions. Diaz admitted to having a firearm with him in November 2011 on Kensington Avenue in Buffalo.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says Diaz’s history in state court makes him an armed career criminal. His charge carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in prison, a maximum of life, a fine of $250,000 or both. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
