Cheektowaga woman wins $1M on scratch-off game

HAMBURG, N.Y. (WIVB) – A Cheektowaga woman couldn’t believe her eyes when she won a million dollars on the New York Lottery’s Cashword scratch-off game.

Yolanda Vega and Lottery jackport announcer Ralph Buckley presented Linda Bright with her big check on Friday at the Erie County Fair.

Bright bought the winning ticket at French Lea Convenient Store on French Lea Road in West Seneca. She says she thought she was hallucinating when she scratched off the big winner.

“I could see the tip of it. I thought it was $5,000 and I was happy with that. So I kept counting the words over and over. And I couldn’t believe it. I was almost speechless,” she said.

Bright said the prize money will make a good down payment on the house she wants to build.

She chose to receive her lottery prize as a one-time lump sum payment, which will be more than $660,000 after taxes.
