Man stopped for speeding accused of DUI of drugs

NEWSTEAD, N.Y. (WIVB) – A man pulled over for speeding late Thursday afternoon was allegedly driving while high on drugs.

The Erie County Sheriff’s Office reports Jacob Cratsenberg has been charged with DUI of drugs, speeding, and seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Deputies stopped the 33-year-old on South Newstead Road in Newstead for driving 75 mph in a 55 mph zone. The deputy who stopped him is a drug recognition expert and determined that Cratsenberg was driving under the influence of drugs, suspected to be heroin.

After being taken into custody, deputies say they found two bags of suspected heroin and several syringes.

Cratsenberg refused to submit to a blood test. He is due back in court at a later date.
