Sheriff Deputy injured after patrol car struck

CITY OF LOCKPORT, N.Y. (WIVB)- A Niagara County Sheriff’s patrol car was involved in an accident Saturday morning causing an officer to be injured.

A deputy was traveling south on North Transit Street, with lights and sirens on, heading to an assault in progress call in the Town of Lockport when William Higgs, 74, of Florida, struck the deputy’s patrol car in the intersection at Main Street.

According to the Sheriff’s office, Higgs’ vehicle went around a stopped vehicle and entered the intersection striking the deputy’s patrol car.

The deputy was transported to Eastern Niagara Hospital in Lockport by the Lockport Fire Department. He was treated and released for minor injuries. The driver was not injured and was cited at the scene for failure to yield for an emergency vehicle.
