Former teacher goes to jail for kissing teen

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. (WIVB) – A woman who was teaching at Casey Middle School when she was caught kissing a 13-year-old boy was sentenced Wednesday to 30 days in jail.

Donna Sleap admitted kissing the teen in April, when she pleaded guilty to endangering the welfare of a child. Sleap kissed the middle school boys on the lips and it was caught on school surveillance cameras.

As part of her sentence, she will have three years probation, a five-year stay away order and she can no longer work with children. The 49-year-old resigned from the Williamsville School District and surrendered her New York State teaching certificate. She will not be able to re-apply for it.

As Sleap was being handcuffed in the Amherst courtroom to be taken to jail, court officers had to tell her husband to back up. He and Sleap’s three children were present for sentencing, but the 13-year-old boy and his family were not in court.

The prosecutor read a letter from the victim’s father. He said his son is in counseling and is permanently scarred.

Sleap apologized in court. Her lawyer called what happened a “perfect storm.” He said Sleap had been battling depression, was diagnosed with a brain tumor and didn’t want to work, but had to for financial reasons.
