Schumer recommends Buffalo attorney for top judicial post

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – A prominent Buffalo attorney is being recommended by Senator Charles Schumer to serve as a judge in the United States District Court in the Western District of New York.

Lawrence Joseph Vilardo is a founding partner of the law firm Connors & Vilardo, LLP. His partner is well-known Buffalo attorney Terry Connors.

Vilardo graduated from Canisius College and Harvard Law School and grew up in this area. Senator Schumer says Vilardo “has a tremendous legal background, a proven commitment to serving the community, and a lifetime of experience in the Buffalo area, including 30 years as a practicing lawyer.”

“He is erudite, experienced, and deeply respected by every facet of the Western New York legal community. He has a tremendous resume and the expertise needed to fill the seat. I am confident he will be a fair, insightful, and well-respected judge, and I will work to make sure he is confirmed as quickly as possible,” said Senator Schumer in a statement.

Vilardo and his wife, Jeanne Susan Vilardo, currently live in Buffalo with their three children.

If appointed by President Barack Obama, Vilardo would fill the seat left vacant by Judge William Skretny, who is stepping down in March 2015 after 25 years on the bench. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
