Zookeepers to celebrate Koga the gorilla’s birthday

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – The Buffalo Zoo is celebrating Koga’s birthday Thursday.

Koga, the male lowland gorilla, is turning 27. The 400-pound silverback has been at the zoo since 2007.

Zookeepers like to make gorillas feel special on their birthdays by decorating their exhibit space and giving them presents.

Koga has made some headlines in the past couple years. You may remember Koga from when he escaped from his exhibit in March 2012.

Several months later, Nyah, a baby western lowland gorilla, was born to parents Lily and Koga.
