HAMBURG, N.Y. (WIVB) – Videos of people dumping ice on their heads to raise money and awareness for ALS have gone viral on social media.

The Hamburg Police Department responded to the ice bucket challenge. Chief Michael Williams passed on the challenge to the towns of West Seneca, Evans and Orchard Park police departments.

It looks like the challenge is working. The ALS Association has received $5.5 million in donations since late July. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
