Miracle League unveils new playground

GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. (WIVB) – A baseball field that allows disabled kids to enjoy what many still call America’s Favorite National Pastime received a brand new addition Saturday.

A new playground at the Miracle League field in Veterans Park on Grand Island opened Saturday featuring a complete safety surface, giving all kids the opportunity to play. The President of the Miracle League for Western New York and Grand Island, RJ Wynne, said this new playground will contribute to the kids in the league, and in the surrounding community.

“We did a lot of research. We had a lot of parents that would drive around all of western New York and find the components that they liked the best. This is the same safety surface we use for our baseball field and we felt that this was the best,” Wynne said. “We met with the parents and a whole bunch of volunteers and we put it together this summer.”

The Miracle League of Grand Island and Western New York was formed three years ago. Kids have been playing baseball in the league since the spring of 2012.
