Town recognizes woman who went on 4,000-mile long bike ride

EVANS, N.Y. (WIVB) – Heather Willard went on a 4,000-mile, summer-long bike ride to help raise money in the fight against cancer.

On Tuesday, her hometown of Evans recognized her efforts, which raised $4,500 for the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults. The proclamation from the town comes on her 21st birthday.

“Cancer is just such a huge, huge disease, and I think that it just needs more awareness in that more people need to know about it, and there’s a lot of differences that can be made if the awareness is there and people know and that’s what I was trying to do this summer,” Willard said.

She graduated from Lakeshore High School three-years ago.
