BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – State Senate Candidate Gia Arnold, who stepped down just last week, says she’s back in the race.

Last Wednesday, the Republican from Orleans County dropped out of the 62nd District campaign after admitting she had an extramarital affair.

“It was an excuse for an escape from an already declining marriage,” Arnold said last week. “I cannot regret the decisions I have made, but I can admit to being happier presently than before.”

But she says after receiving hundreds of messages from voters, she has decided to re-enter the race to the fill the seat being vacated by long-time State Senator George Maziarz, who is not running for re-election.

Arnold faces a primary bid against North Tonawanda Mayor Robert Ortt. One will go on to face endorsed Democrat and Niagara Falls attorney Johnney Destino in the November general election. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
