Officials find jailhouse weapon during sweep

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – A search team at the Erie County Holding Center found a jailhouse weapon during a routine sweep of a cell block on Thursday.

Erie County Sheriff Tim Howard announced that a five-inch shank made of an eyeglass arm and a handle wrapped with torn cloth was discovered in a cell’s air vent. It had a sharpened metal point attached to the end.

The search team locked up the weapon. Inmate Calvin Williams was questioned about the weapon and faces disciplinary and criminal charges.
