Woman committed suicide at Erie County Holding Center, says Sheriffs

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB)- The Erie County Sheriff’s Office held a press conference Sunday morning in response to the apparent suicide of an inmate at the Erie County Holding Center.

Superintendent Thomas Diina, Jail Management Division, said that a 26 year-old female from Brooklyn was found dead early Sunday morning.

The female was brought to the Holding Center on Friday on several drug charges and a minor weapons charge.

The Sheriff’s Office reports that a full investigation is underway and notes that this is the first suicide at the Holding Center in two years.
