Brighton Road to undergo total reconstruction

TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) – Those who travel Brighton Road in the Town of Tonawanda will have to take a detour for several weeks as the roadway undergoes total reconstruction.

Brighton between Fries Road and Niagara Falls Boulevard will be closed mid-September as crews remove trees, put in new storm sewers and curbs with wheelchair ramps at each corner, and install new traffic signals at Fries Road and Parkhurst.

Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz said, “I want to ask the people of this community. They’ve been looking forward to this project for some time, but now I’m going to ask for patience because there are going to be days in which this road is closed.”

The $2 million project is expected to be completed by the end of November. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
