Steel beam strikes worker at downtown construction site

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – A worker was unloading material at the Uniland Development Company construction site at 250 Delaware Avenue Tuesday, when he was struck by a steel beam.

The man was an employee of Seneca Steel Erectors, Inc. and the accident happened around 8:15 a.m., after which the man was taken to a local hospital. Uniland Development says the man suffered non-life threatening injuries and is expected to make a full recovery. His name was not released.

“It appears to be an unfortunate accident and we are assisting OSHA with the investigation to determine how it happened,” said Michael Montante, Uniland Vice President.

The injury happened during construction for a 20-month-long project to create a 12-story mixed-use commercial center, which will also be the new headquarters for Delaware North Companies. The 12-story tower at the corner of Delaware Avenue and Chippewa Street should be completed by 2015. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
