South Park in Lackawanna to be repaved

LACKAWANNA, N.Y. (WIVB) – The crumbling pavement at South Park Avene and Ridge Road in Lackawanna is getting a makeover.

The city is getting $2.5 million in state funding to repair the street and sidewalks. The intersection is located near the Botanical Gardens and Our Lady of Victory Basilica.

Sen. Tim Kennedy said, “Over the years we reconstructed South Park Avenue in the City of Buffalo, South Park Avenue in the Town of Hamburg, City of Blasdell, but unfortunately Lackawanna was left out of the mix. Now Lackawanna is getting its fair share. Lackawanna is getting its due.”

South Park throughout the “Steel City” will be repaved and part of Ridge Road will be refurbished. Local leaders say the fix is long overdue.

The project will get underway next spring. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
