BLASDELL, N.Y. (WIVB) – A destructive fire left a southtowns business in ruins Thursday.
The Woodlawn Fire Company is just about a block away from the business on Lake Avenue, which made and repaired wooden pallets. Multiple fire companies rushed to the scene in the Queen City Business Park around 3 a.m. on Thursday after a fire started.
Crews left the scene, but around 11 a.m., the firefighters in Blasdell had to cut their breakfast short when the flames rekindled. A plume of thick black smoke rose from the business as fire companies dumped another 1,000 gallons of water on the blaze.
The building is a total loss. The manager says between four or five people worked there but no one was inside when the fire started.
Fire investigators are still working to determine what sparked the blaze.
Blasdell Second Assistant Fire Chief Greg Stoklosa said, “We don’t know if it’s kids or workers burning scrap wood. We don’t know what it was.”
Around 100 firefighters from several companies worked for hours to finally extinguish the flames. Officials say the water pressure was too weak on site and crews had to drag a thousand feet of hose to the blaze.
There were no injuries.
