BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Heartbreaking child deaths prompted angry calls for change at Erie County Social Services and officials may be looking to hire a new commissioner.
The county has posted the job listing now that the contract is up for Carole Dankert-Mauer, who has come under fire. She answered legislators questions in July, who found it despicable that over the past four years, five children have died.
The division has faced strong accusations of not doing enough to protect children. This led to a number of changes, including more people hired to reduce caseloads.
The county is required to post the job listing, and Dankert-Mauer is allowed to re-apply for that position.
