Watkins injured in preseason loss to Lions

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WIVB) – Bills first round pick Sammy Watkins left Thursday’s preseason game against Detroit with a rib injury, after taking a hit from Lions linebacker Ashlee Palmer. The Bills went on to lose to Detroit 23-0.

Watkins, who missed last week’s game with bruised ribs, was favoring that area again as the Bills’ staff checked him out on the sidelines. The team officially listed his return tonight as questionable, then later downgraded him to out for the game.

Palmer delivered the hit after an incomplete pass on the team’s second offensive series. The starting offense was on the field for the first three series of the night.

New backup quarterback Jordan Palmer played the majority of the game, but did not turn in a strong performance, tossing three interceptions in the loss.

The Bills will make roster cuts, then prepare for the season opener at Chicago on Sunday, September 7th.
