Drivers will have to adjust to back-to-school traffic

DEPEW, N.Y. (WIVB) – Drivers will have to slow down during the day this week in school zones. Many students are already back in classes for the fall.

Depew Police are focusing on catching speeders near Depew High School on Transit Road. The speed limit is 20 miles per hour when students are arriving and leaving classes from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Officers will also look for people texting and driving.

The National Safety Council’s website features tips for drivers when it comes to sharing the road safely with school buses. They are reminding drivers that traffic needs to stop when a student is entering or exiting a school bus.

They said drivers should stop their car more than 10 feet from the bus, and be alert because children are unpredictable.
