Luna the polar bear still recovering after tumble

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Labor Day is a busy day at the Buffalo Zoo, where admission is only $1 with a coupon from Tops, but this year Luna the polar bear is not on display.

Luna is still recovering after a 14-foot fall Saturday afternoon. She was tranquilized so that handlers could carry her out of her enclosure and has been at the zoo’s veterinary hospital ever since.

Zookeepers say she’s eating and drinking and should be back soon. The zoo plans to have another update on Luna Tuesday.

The polar bears are only in that exhibit temporarily while a new one is being built. The $14 million Arctic Edge makeover will be ready next fall. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
