BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – A 71-year-old man pleaded guilty Wednesday to sexually abusing a 6-year-old child on two separate occasions.
Mikhail Kusluk faces up to 14 years in prison when he’s sentenced later this month for two counts of first degree sexual abuse and one count of endangering the welfare of a child.
Prosecutors say he sexually abused the child in June and September 2011. Kusluk originally pleaded guilty to a lesser charge in October 2012, but later claimed he didn’t understand what he was pleading guilty to.
Kulsak has lived in the United States for more than a decade and had a Russian interpreter present when he pleaded guilty, but a judge ruled Kulsak could withdraw his plea.
A grand jury then indicted Kulsak on higher counts with no plea bargain offered.
Kusluk is being held at the Erie County Holding Center on $50,000 bail. He will be sentenced September 25.
