BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – On the heels of ‘Shark Girl’ and the ‘You Are Beautiful’ campaign comes the next chapter in the WNY Public Art Initiative – an arena painting.

The massive arena painting will come to life on October 25 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the William E. Swan Auditorium at Hilbert College in Hamburg with as many as 200 Erie County residents participating. Buffalo-born artist Charles Clough will be guiding the project.

Applications are now being taken from the public to participate in creating the painting. Participants will be able to pour pints of paint onto a massive canvas and to smear, push, and scrape pools of paint according to Clough’s trademark abstract method.

Anyone is welcome to view the event, which is free and open to the public throughout the day in the William E. Swan Auditorium at Hilbert College.

The completed painting will be installed in the recently renovated Hamburg Public Library at 102 Buffalo Street in Hamburg by the middle of December.

You may apply to participate in the painting project by visiting the Albright-Knox website at http://www.albrightknox.org/collection/public-art/arena-painting. The deadline to enter is September 26 at 5 p.m.

The Public Art Initiative is a collaboration among the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Erie County and the City of Buffalo that seeks to enrich the quality of life by placing significant works of art in public places.
