Driver cited after crash involving school bus

WHEATFIELD, N.Y. (WIVB) – A teen-aged driver was cited Wednesday morning for a crash involving two other vehicles and a school bus on Niagara Falls Boulevard in Wheatfield.

The Niagara County Sheriff’s Office says the school bus had stopped around 8:20 a.m. with its red hazard lights. A vehicle traveling in the opposite direction stopped for the bus, and a second vehicle driven by 19-year-old Mitchell Kinnaman didn’t see the vehicle stop. Kinnaman crashed into the car in front of him, which sent that car into the school bus.

Kinnaman was cited for speed not reasonable and prudent. He and the driver of the other car were taken to ECNC with non-life threatening injuries.

Two students and the bus driver were on board the bus at the time of the crash. They were uninjured.

Jeremy Finn’s daughter was one of the students on board the bus. The accident happened after he had just put his daughter on board.

He said, “At first I was nervous, then I saw stuff leaking out of the truck and I thought it might be gas but it wasn’t. After that I was okay.” provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover. In order to comment here, you acknowledge you have read and agreed to our Terms of Service.
