No jail for sisters who stole from USPS

usps post office postal stamp

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – A pair of sisters who admitted stealing postal service funds will not spend any time behind bars.

Amanda Elliott, 35, of Ellington was Postmaster Relief at the post office located in Lily Dale, N.Y. between December 2012 and September 2013. During that time, she accepted cash payments from customers who wanted stamps, but instead of putting that money in the till, she pocketed it. She ultimately stole around $5,500 from the USPS.

In a separate and unrelated case, Elliott’s sister, Tamara Elliott, 30, of Falconer, worked as Postmaster Relief at the post office located in Ellington, N.Y. Between December 2012 and September 2013, Tamara used the same scheme as her sister to steal more than $11,000 from the USPS.

Both sisters were sentenced Thursday to two years probation. Amanda was ordered to pay around $5,500 in restitution, while her sister was ordered to pay around $11,000.

As part of her sentence, Tamara will also serve three months home confinement.
