Driver dies following accident that shut down 198

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – The eastbound lanes of the 198 have reopened after a late-night accident involving a tractor trailer.

Buffalo Police say the truck driver, a 59-year-old New Jersey man, suffered a medical emergency while driving just past Parkside Avenue around 10:30 Thursday night.

Police said the man was heading east and hit several light poles, the wall under the Main Street overpass and the guardrail at the Humboldt on-ramp before coming to a stop.

The driver later passed away at ECMC.

The eastbound lanes were closed for around seven hours, but were reopened early Friday morning. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
