BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – The family that launched the “Blue 4 Ben” campaign in support of their child who later died from a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer is celebrating the birth of a baby girl.

The Sauers welcomed Katherine Hope at 8:02 Friday morning. She entered the world weighing eight pounds, 15 ounces and 20.75 inches long. The family says she’s doing great.

Her late brother Ben, who passed away this May at 5-years-old, is an identical twin behind the “Blue 4 Ben” phenomenon. Social media accounts, landmarks and schools across Western New York were awash in the color as Ben fought an aggressive form of cancer.

He was given weeks to live in February, but fought for three months, and was able to celebrate his fifth birthday with his brother, Jack, about a week before he passed away.

The family said they are “so grateful for God’s goodness and provision.”
