WHEATFIELD, N.Y. (WIVB)- A portion of Niagara Falls Boulevard was closed for several hours Saturday evening from Mavis Drive to Ward Road in the Town of Wheatfield.
The Niagara County Sheriff’s office reports that around 2:17 p.m. first responders arrived at the scene of a two car accident at the intersection of Niagara Falls Boulevard and Errick Road.
Initial investigation at the scene by deputies revealed that a Pontiac was southbound on Niagara Falls Boulevard when it crossed over the double yellow line into the northbound lane striking a northbound jeep.
Both drivers suffered serious injuries and were both airlifted to ECMC.
Two passengers in the Jeep suffered minor injuries and were taken via ambulance to Erie County Medical Center and Children’s Hospital.
Capt. Bruce Elliott with the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office tells News 4 that one passenger was a small child and wanted to stress that it was the correct installation of the child safety seat that prevented further injury. Elliott said, “It was well installed and the child only had a minor laceration.”
The driver of the Pontiac is being charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs and aggravated unlicensed operation 1st degree.
Additional charges may follow. Investigation is continuing by the Accident Investigation Unit.
