Alleged drunk driver accused of trying to bribe deputies

CLARENCE, N.Y. (WIVB) – Deputies charged an alleged drunk driver with bribery after they say she repeatedly offered “anything and everything” if officers would let her go free.

The Erie County Sheriff’s Office responded to Salt Road at Clarence Center Road in the Town of Clarence around 8 p.m. Saturday on reports of a car in a ditch.

Deputies say when they arrived and began speaking to the driver about her possible intoxication, 21-year-old Melinda Mooney ran away. Deputies caught her after a brief foot chase and took her into custody after a brief struggle.

Mooney, who has a prior DWI conviction, refused all testing and tried offering deputies “anything and everything” to let her go free, according to the sheriff’s office. Instead, she was charged with third degree bribery on top of felony DWI, resisting arrest and obstruction of governmental administration.

Mooney was taken to the Erie County Holding Center pending arraignment. Her vehicle was towed from the scene.
