Alleged drunk driver causes four-car accident

SHERIDAN, N.Y. (WIVB) – Deputies say a drunk driver caused an accident involving three other vehicles in the Town of Sheridan last Friday.

Around 9 p.m., the sheriff’s office says 52-year-old Michael Schindler failed to stop at a red light on Rt. 20 where other vehicles were at the light. Schindler’s vehicle slammed into the rear of a vehicle, pushing it forward. That vehicle in turn hit a third, and the third vehicle hit a fourth.

One adult passenger in the vehicle Schindler hit was taken to the hospital as a precaution. A man in the third vehicle involved was transported for minor injuries. No one else were hurt.

Schindler was arrested on charges of DWI, following too closely, unreasonable speed and inadequate equipment.

He is due back in court at a later date. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
