Deputies arrest man driving stolen car after chase

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Deputies on patrol in the City of Buffalo say a license plate reader led them to a suspect driving a stolen car.

On Sunday around 11:30 p.m., deputies with the Erie County Sheriff’s Office were passing a vehicle on Chandler Street when the license plate reader alerted them the vehicle was stolen.

Officers pulled the vehicle over, but as they approached, the driver took off. On Military Road, he came to an abrupt stop and he and his passenger took off running.

Deputies were able to catch up with the driver, 28-year-old James Davis of Buffalo, who was arrested on charges of felony criminal possession of a stolen vehicle as well as six other misdemeanors and seven traffic violations.

Officers were unable to locate the passenger.

Authorities say Davis could face additional charges pending the outcome of a lab test on the contents of a plastic bag containing white powder that was found inside the vehicle.
