AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) – Anchor Bar is spreading its wings again and Wednesday officially opened its fourth location in Western New York.
Michael Schiappa Jr. and Tony Schiappa opened a franchise restaurant at 7662 Transit Road near Sheridan in Amherst, in the former home of Corner Bakery Cafe.
“For some, the city location may not be as accessible, so we’re bringing the world famous original wings to an area most conducive to the suburbs,” said Tony Schiappa in a news release. “As chicken wing lovers it’s amazing that now we’re a part of the company that started it all.”
The Amherst location will be 4,200 square feet and seat 130 people. It will sit almost directly across the street from wing rival Duff’s, which has a franchise location inside the Eastern Hills Mall.
The original Anchor Bar opened on Main Street in Buffalo in 1935. The first franchise location debuted at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport in 2009. Since then, other Anchor Bar franchises have opened at Darien Lake in Genesee County and across the border in Hamilton, Ontario.
