CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) – A Cheektowaga man who admitted injuring a 5-month-old child by violently shaking the infant was sentenced Wednesday.
James Brown, 25, will spend the next four years in prison. He could have faced up to seven years in prison for reckless assault of a child.
Prosecutors say last December, Brown shook the infant for at least 10 minutes while he was babysitting, causing the child to suffer bleeding to the brain, bleeding to both eyes, and knocking the baby unconscious.
The baby survived, but his mother says her son spent 21 days in the hospital. “They didn’t think that he was going to make it at first. And the second day he started moving his arms and he was moving his arms and legs,” said Bianca Williams.
The infant was diagnosed with shaken baby syndrome.
