BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – The Sabres offense looked potent for the first time in a long time Wednesday night, with Buffalo pounding Washington 6-1 in a preseason matchup.
Matt Moulson scored twice, Tyler Ennis added a goal and two assists, and rookie Sam Reinhart found the net for the first time in a Sabres jersey.
The Sabres exploded for three first-period goals, with Drew Stafford’s power play tip-in sandwiched between a Moulson and an Ennis goal. They would extend that lead to 5-0 behind another Moulson strike and a Marcus Foligno goal in the second period.
The lone Buffalo third-period score game from the stick of Reinhart, who has struggled to find much success in his first NHL preseason.
“It’s one of those things, it was really nice to see him smile,” said head coach Ted Nolan. “When things aint going your way and pucks aren’t finding the seams, he’s made some good plays in previous games, but tonight to see him put one in is a good sign. Good sign of relief for him.”
The Sabres finish off the preseason this Friday at Carolina.
