Watkins on Orton: “The ball’s coming out faster”

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WIVB) – With Wednesday’s practice, the Bills’ starting receivers had their first chance to work extensively with newly-crowned starting quarterback Kyle Orton, leading to some noticeable differences.

“He’s more of a veteran guy,” said Sammy Watkins. “In the way he talked, the way he handles business, the way he looks at plays and breaks down defenses is kind of different than EJ. He’s reading it quicker, the ball’s coming out faster.”

Another theme from that group, was Orton taking more control of the offense, communicating what he expects to see.

“He’s directing us as well in the huddle, telling us what to look for and be ready for when we’re breaking the huddle and when he calls a play,” said Robert Woods.

“He’s demanding us of what he wants out of routes. ‘You need to be there.’ I can’t wait to actually get in a game with him,” said Watkins.

No matter who the quarterback might be, the focus is clear: win games.

“We’re still first in our division,” said Mike Williams. “That’s our first goal, is to win our division, and we still got our goals ahead of us.”
